Survey on Multimodal AI (1) — Entertainment Video Generation

First Contact

I came across a handful of AI-generated short videos. A few seconds long each. That's all it took to completely change my understanding of what synthetic media can do — today, not in some distant future.

What Hit Me

Not "wow, cool." Something deeper — I had to rethink everything I thought I knew about synthetic video.

Fidelity that crosses the threshold. The resolution isn't just high; it's past the point where my brain can reliably flag it as synthetic. Skin texture with visible pores. Subsurface scattering across a cheekbone. Motion blur that obeys real camera physics. Micro-expressions that don't loop or stutter.

Texture that feels tactile. You can almost feel the fabric, the hair, the ambient light bouncing off a surface. This isn't the waxy, over-smoothed uncanny output of early generative video. This is material realism at a level that makes you pause and ask: was this shot on a camera?

Presence. The subject occupes space. Weight, gravity, breath. There's a moment — a tiny head turn, a glance away — where the uncanny valley doesn't just narrow. It collapses entirely.

The Uncomfortable Question

When a 5-second clip can bypass human perception, we're not talking about "cool tech demos" anymore. We're talking about a fundamental shift in how visual media is produced, trusted, and consumed. If entertainment-grade video is already this convincing, what happens when the same fidelity meets advertising, journalism, or personal messaging?

This is the first installment. More to come — benchmarks, model comparisons, and the infrastructure behind the magic.
